Our Origin
Afiya is a word rooted in multiple cultures and languages, carrying a meaning that is both expansive and sacred.
In Somali, Afiya refers to health, wellbeing, wholeness, and vitality - not just the absence of illness, but the presence of balance.
In Swahili, Afya means health, often used to describe overall wellbeing of body and spirit.
In Arabic, Afiya conveys good health, protection, and divine wellness, a blessing often used in prayer - a reminder that health is a gift to be honored.
Across these languages, Afiya reflects a shared belief: health is holistic, intentional, and deeply intertwined with how we live, move, and care for ourselves. It is physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. It is sacred. That belief is the foundation of Afiya.
About the Founder
I am a yoga and Pilates instructor, running coach, and the founder of Afiya. But more than that, I am someone who deeply believes in the power of movement to change lives.
Afiya grew from my love for fitness, mindfulness, and community - and from a desire to ensure that women like us are seen, represented, and centered in wellness spaces.
Through Afiya, I train women, curate intentional events, and create environments where movement feels accessible, empowering, and safe. Every class, run, and gathering is designed to foster connection.
Why Afiya Was Created
Afiya was born from my own journey with movement, fitness, and healing. Through running, yoga, Pilates, and strength training, I experienced firsthand how movement can be grounding, empowering, and transformative - not just for the body, but for the mind and soul. Fitness became a place of clarity, discipline, and self-trust. It became a form of self-care and self-respect. But as I grew deeper into these spaces, one thing became increasingly clear: women who looked like me were rarely present - and often invisible. I didn’t see women like myself represented in running clubs, yoga studios, Pilates rooms, or tennis spaces. And when we were there, we were often navigating environments that were not built with us in mind. So instead of waiting to be included, I decided to create the space myself.
Wellness in Motion
Afiya’s slogan - “Wellness in Motion” - reflects the core philosophy of the brand.
Wellness is not static.
It is not a destination.
It is not perfection.
It is movement, evolution, and intention.
The Community
Afiya is a women-only wellness community rooted in:
Movement
